Dominus is Latin for ‘Lord of the Estate’. While attending UC Davis, Christian Moueix fell in love with Napa Valley and its wines.

In 1981 the son of Jean-Pierre Moueix, the famed wine merchant of France discovered the 124-acre site west of Yountville that was an historic site of some of the best Napa Valley wines of the 1940s and 1950s.  He negotiated a sale, formed a partnership and did what he had to do to acquire the property.  By 1995 Christian Moueix became the sole owner.

The goal to create the finest possible wines that only the Sonoma climate with a unique terroir of the vineyards in the Carneros and Sonoma regions is not unique to Ram’s Gate.  The winemaking team at Ram’s Gate approaches the process starting with a unique site.  Fruit is harvested and handled with care.  The intention is to select from a specific vineyard, a specific cluster and to sort the berries on their custom designed tables.

Simi Winery has had a long history of women who have shaped the business. At the age of 18 , Isabelle Simi took over the management and became one of the first women who would lead the Simi wine business over the next 100 years.

Drop into this old winery and step back in history as you enjoy a variety of wine and food pairings.  This place is here today because of a failure to find a fortune in the Gold Rush of 1849.  Giuseppe Simi moved to the area when gold eluded him.  In 1876 Giuseppe and brother Pietro produced their first wines under the Simi name.  By 1890 a stone cellar was erected, where harvested grapes were crushed, and wine fabulous wine resulted.  The facility is still used today on Healdsburg Ave.

Tragedy struck the brothers who both died of the flue in 1904.  At the time, Giuseppe’s daughter, who had been involved in the winery took over the operation.  At the age of 18, she became one of the first women who would lead the Simi wine business over the next 100 years.
